迪庆藏族自治州，英文名称Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture。简称：迪庆，藏语意为吉祥如意的地方，是全国10个藏族自治州之一，位于云南省西北部，滇、川、藏三省区结合部，是举世闻名的“三江并流”世界自然遗产核心区，是“世界的香格里拉”。

　　全州国土面积2.3万平方公里，境内地势北高南低，地形呈纵深切割之势，最高峰梅里雪山卡瓦格博海拔6740米，最低谷碧玉河入澜沧江口海拔1486米，大自然在这里造化出了神奇的雪山、险峻的峡谷、花毯似的草甸、明镜般散落的湖泊、浩瀚的原始森林、珍奇的动植物。

　　境内有藏、傈僳、纳西、汉、白、回、彝、苗、普米等9个千人以上的民族和其他少数民族16种，辖香格里拉市、德钦县、维西傈僳族自治县和香格里拉经济开发区，共29个乡镇，193个村（居）委会，总人口41万人，其中少数民族人口占88.3%。迪庆拥有别样的神奇山水、别致的民俗民风，是一个浓缩了多种自然景观、多种民族文化风情的壮美神奇之地。 

　　“香格里拉”，是1933年英国著名作家詹姆斯•希尔顿在小说《消失的地平线》中描绘的中国西南部藏区的一个永恒、和谐、包容、宁静之地。它寄托了人们对美好生活的憧憬，表达了人类寻求和平、文明与幸福的理想社会的强烈愿望。小说出版后，一时间寻找香格里拉的文化浪潮在全球兴起，半个多世纪以来，许许多多香格里拉的信仰者、探险家、人类学家，纷纷踏足中国藏区、中国大西南等地，热切寻找他们心中的“香格里拉”。

　　直到上世纪90年代中期，经过数十名专家学者对“香格里拉”一系列问题进行深入调查研究和科学论证后，1997年9月14日，云南省人民政府在迪庆藏族自治州成立40周年庆典之际，郑重向世界宣布香格里拉就在云南迪庆。2001年12月17日，国务院批准迪庆州政府所在地中甸县更名为香格里拉县，2002年5月5日举行了更名庆典。“香格里拉”正式落户迪庆。此后，经过多年打造和提升，形成了“世界的香格里拉”品牌。

　　“Diqing”means “place of lucky and good fortune” in Tibet language. It is the Shangri-la of the world, and the only Tibetan autonomous region in Yunnan  .Diqing lies in the northwest of Yunnan ,the south of Qingzang plateau ,which is the junction of Yunnan, sichuang and Tibet. The total area of Diqing is 23870 square kilometers, and the general population is 410000. There are 26 minority nationalities live in Diqing generation by generation. All the nations unity , courage and develop together , they produced a rich and colorful national culture.
　　Diqing is located in the southeast of "Asia Water Tower" and the heart of the World Nature Heritage of “Three parallel rivers”. The average altitude is 3380 meters, Meili, Yunling and Zhongdian this three mountains across the sky, Lancan and jingsha river flow through the whole land from north to south, so it forms the magnificent landscape of “Three Mountains clips two  rivers”. The highest elevation of Diqing is 6740 meters,  the lowest  is 1486 meters, the absolute elevation is 5254 meters, this forms the unique vertical climate and three-dimensions ecological environment of Diqing, and so is the saying of “Four seasons in a mountain, different weather in ten miles”.
　　Diqing has the highest peak of Yunnan-  Kawagebo Meili snow mountain, the world famous Tiger Leaping Gorge, the birth place of Dongba culture-“Left field by immortal” Bai Shuitai, the lowest latitude of modern ice glacier in China—Mingyong Glacier, the first national park in mainland China- Potatso , one of the 13 temples in Kangba Tibetan area —Gadan Songzanglin Monastery, the magnificient Balagezong Ecotourism Scenic Spot, the intoxicated Golden Monkey National Park, the three-dimensional ecological culture tourism Scenic Spot- Shika Snow Mountain and many other developing and developed Scenic Spot. In the mean time, Diqing also has  the historical national costume, the different folk dances, the charismatic national traditional art, the mysterious and profound multi religion culture, the integration of natural landscape and scenery of humanities. so, Shangri-la of the world is the way to the attractions.
